After the first round of the competition in June, when the children from the seven Ormskirk and Aughton Primary Schools were asked to design their own Gingerbread model, a panel of judges met to decide on a winner from each school and then select the overall winner of the competition.
On 30 September 2014, the winning children were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour to receive ceramic models of their designs from the Mayor herself, together with a commemorative certificate.
The overall winner is Adrianna Usher from Town Green Primary School. She and her parents were thrilled to see a full sized picture of her design which will be used to produce a full-sized Gingerbread Man.
The full-size model will be ready at the end of November and Ormskirk Community Partnership, using funding from the Big Lottery, will pay for its production and installation at a location in the town.
OCP is hoping that once the model is seen that this will inspire shops, businesses and organisations to sponsor further models to help promote Ormskirk as the Gingerbread Town thus attracting people to visit and shop in Ormskirk.
The winners are: Abbi Parker (Christ Church), Adam Proctor (Asmall), Megan Knowles (Ormskirk CE), Alyssa Lombari (St Anne's), Alexandra Galley, St Michael's, Adrianna Usher (Town Green) and Charlie Simpson (West End).
