Catch Your Gingerbread in Ormskirk

Talk and cookery demonstration by Sam Bilton, author of "First Catch Your Gingerbread".

Sunday 12th September 2021

11:30 - 12:30 and 1pm - 2pm

The Chapel - Ormskirk Arts House, St Helens Road, Ormskirk, Lancashire, L39 4QR

Join us on Sunday 12 September at The Chapel Ormskirk for an inspiring and entertaining talk and cookery demonstration by Sam Bilton. Sam is an established food historian, writer and cook and the author of “First Catch Your Gingerbread”, which tells the story of gingerbread and presents a tempting selection of recipes inspired by historical sources. She has worked with the National Trust and English Heritage and enjoys recreating the dishes that our ancestors appreciated.

Ormskirk has a long tradition of making and selling gingerbread that continues to the present day. In the eighteenth century the customers were weary travellers on uncomfortable stage coaches between Liverpool and Preston. A hundred years later, our local gingerbread ladies found that railway passengers were equally appreciative of their wares. And today, Ormskirk Gingerbread is still sold in our local shops and market.

Free event.  Everyone welcome but tickets must be booked in advance.
